A Raag as a Space of Possibilities
A musical form is not merely a scale; it is a constrained landscape of movement, emphasis and return.
A raag is often introduced through ascent and descent. Yet a list of notes is no more a raag than an alphabet is a poem.
Its identity lives in characteristic motion: where a phrase rests, how it approaches a note, what it avoids, and what kind of emotional gravity governs its return.
One might imagine a raag as a space whose points are phrases—but whose geometry is shaped by musical grammar rather than ordinary distance.
